Renting Out In Law Apt

Billy Zolga
Posted

Hi - new to Bigger Pockets and RE. Looking for a live in Multi Family in Rhode Island, and came across a great option. Only issue is the 2nd unit is technically a "Legal In Law" Apt. It's in the basement and has a private entrance. Can you legally rent this out? I'm seeing conflicted opinions online, not sure if it varies state by state. If anyone could share a bit of insight it'd be greatly appreciated!
