ADU rules/requirements - Northern VA

Hi all,

Curious if anyone on BP has experience with ADUs in the Northern VA area (I'm in Fairfax County). I (owner occupant) live in the upstairs unit (a 3/2) with my GF. One prospective tenant for the downstairs unit (a 3/1) has inquired - but only for rent by the room. I plan to call the county's compliance/code office this week just to be safe and check on the zoning. But wanted to see if there's anyone out there with insight/recommendations/advice in the region.
