qualifications for section 8 Orange County CA

I am truly inspired by a local family and want to help in any way I can. I am a high school teacher and both children who were born in the United States have earned strait A's in spite of the challenges that extreme poverty and fear that their parents could be deported present. Due to a recent acute illness (not Covid related) and a lack of work for parents and children (coved related) this family is in danger of becoming homeless.

Does anybody have advice on where to go for help to see if this family could qualify for section 8 housing assistance? In the short term I am sure we can help them defer their current rent - but I am looking for a long term solution. I would move this family into one of my units tomorrow if there is hope for some assistance down the road.
