Unsafe rental conditions

Megan Carson
Posted

I’ve been living in the same rental for the last 2 years and have never had any issues, but 4 days ago I came home and noticed that my bathtub looked like it was going to fall through the floor into the basement. I contacted my landlord immediately and they came in, took the bathtub and toilet out, ripped up the floorboards but now 3 days have passed and no repairs have been made. Today we came home and there was a giant gaping hole in the floor that my dog almost fell through. Our neighbors are walking around the communal basement and looking up into our apartment through this hole. This is the third day that I have had to leave the house to pee and I am now asking a friend if i can shower at her place. Isn’t this illegal? I’m looking for advice on how to further handle this situation. Thanks in advance

Replied

This one more reason to understand the wisdom of renter's insurance.  In this case, you would be reimbursed for staying at a hotel/motel.
