Landlord tenant laws

Eric Stugart
Posted

I understand there are certain laws that landlords have to abide by. I was dating a girl who had told me that her landlord would just walk into her apartment whenever he wanted unannounced and this was while she was in college rooming with like 4 other girls! In hindsight I should have told her she could get him in serious trouble but I didn’t know she could at the time. I read that landlords have to tell their tenants when they are coming and get permission most of the time to go into their apartment. What are the penalties for a landlord walking into a tenants apartment unannounced? Any and all responses are appreciated, thank you.

It's hard to say what the penalty would be but she should probably call the police immediately and file a report. If it happened a second time, call the police and demand a No Trespass order or maybe even a restraining order.
