Did you ever deal with Diplomatic clause?

I have been renting for 5 years now. So far so good. Recently i got “trapped” with a situation that is out of ordinary.

I have a tenant that has been renting my property for almost 18 months, and we have signed a diplomatic clause, which allows him, in case of relocation, cancel the contract without penalty, as long as he gives me 60 days notice.

He came in the beginning of march and told me he would be relocated. Acknowledge the 60 days but told me his wife would stay in the house until may 28th, due to school calendar.

Now, on march 28th he send me an email saying that, due to covid19, he is anticipating the Move to April 6.

I am considering, for rent purpose, that the contract is valid till may 28 th as i haven’t done any move to re rent the house. My argument is that knowing he was going to leave in April 6 i would have started the showing as soon as his 1 st email arrived, and did not donit as his wife would stay till May 28. My showing was scheduled to start in March 28. I am offering to reimburse if i rent the house prior to may 28th.

What do you think ? Would you consider the notice the beginning of march plus 60 days or am I right to consider May 28 as thats what he advised me ( by the way, the march 28 plus 60 days equals the May 28)?

Thanks for your inputs
