Lapsed Insurance Problem

Posted

Hello,

I'm new to Big Pockets and to owning a rental property so please bear with me! This site was recommended to me as a great source of expert advice, so here goes: through a variety of mishaps, the homeowner's insurance for the property I own in Connecticut has lapsed for a bit over 90 days. The insurance company will not reinstate the policy nor let us buy a new one because the house has been uninsured for more than three months. There appears to be no way around this. That insurance itself was a challenge to find because the company before that refused to renew the old policy since we had to make a couple of fairly large claims to them. These claims were not due to defects in the house itself, but other factors that would have been near impossible to spot. The point is: the house is in great condition, but we are having a really hard time finding an insurance company that will cover it. Any recommendations are welcome!

Thank you!
