Egress/Exit Issues on a 3-Family
I am renovating a three-family house in Connecticut. When I pulled permits I had the fire Marshall out to address any issue preemptively and he noted that because the ceiling was too low in the back exit hallway my third floor apartment was only considered to have one means of Egress. I've talked to a few architects and dug through the code a bit myself but can't find anybody that really deals with this type of issue as it seems very niche and specific to three-families. The options either seem impractical or a waste. I have come up with 1) adding a dormer to raise the ceiling, 2) sprinkler system 3) opening up walls on the main corridor so its considered opened though I'm not 100% this solves my issue and 4) completely fireproofing the main corridor. Wondering if anybody has come across this before, has other suggestions, or has an opinion on the ones I've come up with. Thanks, Ryan
