Would you be suspicious?

I had someone come two days ago who was on SSI and child support (did not have enough gross income to qualify). Yesterday, I received another phone call, from a different phone number but same area code as the first call. It's from another area of the state from which I rarely get calls. Same type of person, asking to come see the house. Could it be relatives or friends of the first individual trying to get the place for her under a different name, or am I being paranoid?

I've had similar calls, it seemed. Ignore the thoughts. Keep in mind those who are turned away may try again, so what? You qualify and verify tenants prior to leasing.

I also suggest you not turn anyone down on the phone, especially those with government incomes or where any discrimination issue might exist. Here, those turned down call HUD and the state, we have regulators who will then pose as applicants to check you out, same with Realtor and lending issues. I met one heavy set black lady who was really good at testing people for compliance, a great actress.

Just be fair, consistant and follow the rules.
