Awnings?

I have noticed investors who immediately take off awnings from the rental properties they purchase. With more experience I have noticed that the homes I have with awnings sometimes have water leakage problems. What has been all of your experience with awnings, and do any of you also take them off? I am wondering it the other investors do this for esthetics or is there a practical reason. Thanks to all who offer advice
