Landlord/Tenant Water Damages

Tanaya Fisher

Hey All I am currently house hacking and over the weekend there was a leak from the toilet located upstairs in the unit that I live in. The water leaked into tenants unit, which costs water damaged to some of tenants personal belongings. Tenant does have renters insurance however it is a 5k deductible. Tenant estimated the total damage cost to be 2k. How should I go about this situation since tenant insurance will not cover it? Thank you!

Tell her to buy her own mattress that’s what renter insurance is for ! It’s not your problem that she bought inadequate insurance . Do not give this woman a penny . The reality is her bed is probably just fine a little water spot won’t hurt just needs a day Or so to dry up . No sense in buying a new bed that’s for sure . Tell her to duke it out with her insurance company .
