MARYLAND--Should I Get a Lawyer? Suing Out of State Tenant

Hi,

I went to court today and found that my tenant didn't show up.  Also, someone else signed the wrong name on the certified delivery.  His wife had given me the address in hopes of receiving a deposit. 

Now I have to go back to the drawing board, I am trying to determine if it's worth getting a lawyer in hopes that I can get a judgement against him and ask that he pay my lawyer fees (I'm not sure how that works since I have a civil case.) The tenant owes over $4K in unpaid rent/utility bills.
