Owner is out of town and request deposit before shipping keys

The owner has approved my rental application and in order for me to get the keys I would need to provide deposit first. They are currently volunteering around the world so I cannot meet them. I have been contacting them via email and I am worried about scams and losing my money. Can you guys provide me some advice and insight to this issue.
