Hi,

I am seeking advice in Houston TX where a friend of mine signed a lease on Sept. 23rd for a lease that begins Oct 27th. She has since let them know that her dad has passed away and she needs to be at home with family. They told her she would not get her two months rent back and that she in fact owes them two extra months rent. I can provide contract via email.
Are there any laws that protect tenants from this highway robbery?

I don't see anything in the contract about prior to move in termination.
