Tenant Abandoned Property

My Tenant at my Dallas rental (Collin county to be more specific) abandoned the property and its been over a month since he left. I have finished all the formalities (notice to quit, etc) and the unit is back on market for rent. My question is pursuing him for damages which are over the the security deposit amount plus the unpaid rents. I understand the small claims court route which is a tedious process and plus a gamble specially since i have to pay out of my pocket to initiate the process and there is no guaranty he will pay even if i win. Instead i would like to pursue the rent recovery route and i have used one such company (Rent Recovery Solutions) but just wondering if there are any other companies people have had better results. My understanding with Rent Recovery companies is that they put such behavior on the tenant's credit history.

Also, any other advise on other strategies and options to hammer such tenants. Also, wondering if this is a case of eviction which i can put on his credit report?

Any help would be appreciated.
