Tenants dog causes injury.

Hi, so my tenant's girlfriend's dog got out of the apartment and barked and scared a lady outside in the hallway. She fell and had to be hospitalized. I have received a notice that she has hired a lawyer to represent her. They are not sueing me yet but I want to know what is my liability in this circumstance. I did not know he was keeping his girlfriends dog in the apartment at the time. I have no clause saying I prohibit dogs in the lease agreement. The apparent complex association said that he was supposed to go to a meeting when he first moved in but i was not aware of this and they never told me that he was required to go. I guess in the meeting they are supposed to cover rules about dogs being on a leash. Can I be found liable for this accident?

Thanks,
Arthur
