Window unit vs mini split heat/cool

Hi all looking for some practical advice here. I need to do some repairs on a duplex 750sqft each unit. Windows are older and do NOT accommodate an AC unit. Previous owner modified one of the windows in the living room of each unit to place a window ac/heat unit. The one unit was poorly modified and the window is broken. The other has a wooden insert adjacent to the AC unit to make it work. I am considering doing a mini split unit vs window units and window repairs. These are not upscale units by any means.
