NJ - Asking tenant to move at end of lease and selling condo

Sam Axelrod
Posted

Greetings! We have been renting our condo to a tenant for the past 8 months, but want to list and sell the condo at the end of the current 12 month lease term instead of renewing the lease.

I plan to send notice that I intend to sell at 90 days prior to the end of the lease term, but know that NJ is fairly specific when it comes to not offering a lease renewal.

My questions are:

1) Do I have my bases covered if the tenant chooses to push back?

2) What kind of push back could there be?

3) Would the tenant have viable legal recourse options? The tenant pays on time and I do not have any reason to ask them to leave, other than my plans to list the condo.

Thanks in advance!
