Investing in land

I'm new for land investment and would like to start bidding land online. Has anyone had this experience and is it worthy to invest in land? I'm in California and wondering does it make sense to invest land in other states.

Investing in land requires more detailed real estate knowledge and experience than just about any other type property investment. There is usually no current income; property taxes, interest etc. create a continuous negative cash flow, and profitability only occurs if demand for the particular parcel you own increases AND local government regulations allow for development. In summation, if you have to ask the questions you are asking land investing is not for you.
