cost of adding washer/dryer hookups

Angela Smith
Posted

We have a property that has been listed for rent for about 2 weeks.  It has had a lot of inquiries and visits.  People are reporting that they love the property but then they decline to rent because the washer/dryer hook ups are in the basement.  It is a dry basement, but it's not finished and the stairs are narrow and steep.

So, we are considering running plumbing and electric to a space in the kitchen in order to bring the hookups to the main level.

What might be the costs involved in doing this?   Any ideas or questions about it?

I don't think anyone can give you an accurate answer without looking at the home. You will need electric, water, and drainage. Don't forget the dryer runs on 220v. The costs can vary dramatically depending on how much needs to be done to get those items near your proposed new hookup. Id get a few estimates and go from there. You can piece it out and call a plumber, electrician, and maybe a handyman if any drywall or carpentry needs to be done. You can also just call a GC that will most likely sub it out to those 3 guys but just give you one price.

I think it is safe to say it won't be a few hundred dollars unless you are fortunate enough to have all those hookups in one place you already plan on putting the units.
