Is landlord liable for water leak damage

If there is a window seal leak and water has leaked in the rental property can tenant hold landlord liable for any damage to furniture?

Thats what they have renters insurance for . And second the tenant should have let the landlord know of a bad window seal , the tenant could be held liable for any water damage to the house .
