Questions about Utilities from a Newbie...

Hey Everyone.

Newbie here. To the site and rental properties. Just joined yesterday and I'm currently making time to read the starting guide.

I did have a question about dividing up utilities in this home my wife and I are looking at purchasing.

It is a duplex and currently the electric is tracked separately, but the gas, sewer and water are shared. There is a shared washer and dryer in the basement and a thermostat on the top floor only that controls the heat for the whole house.

What are the best ways to split the utilities cost between the tenants? The top unit is about 150 sq ft larger than the bottom unit.

Thanks in advance.
