Do you get excited about repair expenses because of the tax benefits?

I'm trying to look at the positive side of getting my rental property up to the neighborhood value. I've read there are great tax breaks for business expenses but know very little and have very little experience.  I am doing a better job this year tracking expenses.  I hope it will pay off when I do my taxes next year.
