Found a roofing contractor - Now what?

It's springtime and my property needs a new roof! I have quotes from different contractors and narrowed it down to one. He checked out with another investor, has been great with communication (shocker), and has a better price. What should I look out for if I hire this crew for job? We worked out the details of the job but it's not in writing yet. Any advice or stories would be appreciated.

Thanks

@Jaron Walling Request a copy of insurance and bond...he should have copies in the glove box of his truck. Ask for referrals from the last 3-5 clients he's done roofs for. Look to unresolved findings for recovery with the treasurer and also search the attorney generals complaints. Also check the secretary of state to ensure he's registered to do business...and department of commerce for his license. The last check is bureau of workers comp...to make sure he has a policy and drug free safety in place.
