Tenant screening/ finding rental comps in the boondocks?

Looking at (possibly a first deal) How do renters find houses to rent other than Zillow? Looking for comps in an area that is kind of boondocks also what exactly should I look for when tenant screening? Background checks? What kind of big “NO NO’s” should a beginner look for? And the in those “NO NO’s” tell the potential tenant that this is what we cannot deal with sorta say
