The city that I live in does not allow Airbnb rentals, although I can go just over to Chattanooga, Tn to buy Airbnb. Does anyone else live in a city that does not allow Airbnb rentals?

New Orleans had allowed them for a couple years.  They even set up a licensing program, with three different types of licenses.

But the City Council just banned one type of license a couple weeks ago, which is what 70% of the STRs fall under. The rug just got pulled out from under a lot of businesses who bought houses, strictly for the STR market here. I think it was a really underhanded thing for the city to do, but they are never able to look past the nose on their face so it is hardly surprising. Most residents don't like STRs and there are a lot more of them screaming loudly than there are investors. I don't trust the city or state government any further than I can throw them, which is why I personally never waded into the STR waters.

With all that said, new STR licenses are still available here for properties that are zoned "commercial/mixed use" or for "owner-occupied" properties (up to 4 units). However, I've heard the next parish (county) over doesn't allow STRs at all.
