Reversing a check which was issued as a security deposit refund?

Hello,

I'm in Michigan 

I issued a security deposit refund check before realizing that the tenants didn't actually pay the last month rent ($1150).  I texted the tenants and made them read the lease agreement which proves that they only paid the first month rent and security deposit, and not last month rent as they claimed.  Also, in the text they admitted that it was a mistake and that they didn't pay the last month rent because of it. 

I called my bank immediately (day after issuing a check) and the bank attempted to put a stop on the check.  The check was already in the process of clearing and the bank wasn't able to stop it.  However, after it cleared, I called the bank and they stated that they can reverse the check but it would take 10 business days.  Is this legal.  Am I exposing my self to any legal problems by canceling the security deposit refund check and reversing the transaction?
