Verifying whether a tenant lied on an application

Seth Renfro
Posted

Hello everyone, I'm new on here and looking for some help. I have a current tenant who wants to add her boyfriend to the lease. So I took his application and he said that he had never filed bankruptcy. But, when I did his background check on BeenVerified, I saw that it appears that he has filed bankruptcy in the past. What I need help with is to verify that this is accurate. I'm new to BeenVerified and am curious as to whether this site/app is accurate, and also, how to verify that this information is correct. Do I check with the bankruptcy court? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Don't kill yourself over this. If the background check says he has a bankruptcy, tell the applicant he is denied because he failed to disclose the bankruptcy. If the information is incorrect, it's his responsibility to prove it. You shouldn't spend all your time playing detective on behalf of others.
