How can I conduct a background check in NY?

Good afternoon friends,

I own a couple of properties in upstate NY and now the two family house that I own in the county of Columbia is ready to be rented. I’d like to conduct a background check on potential renters. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I’m new to real estate investing.
