Newly Rental property owner!

Glenn Yoma
Posted
Hi everyone, I will be closing on my first duplex next week and will finally be on the house hacking business in SC. I am beyond excited for this step and also feeling my nerves spike. Friends, fellow house hackers, and landlords, what tips do you have for this green landlord in taking this huge responsibility? I would appreciate any tips and experiences that you may offer. Thank you!

First of all congratulations @Glenn Yoma.

Make sure you screen your tenants.  Don’t get caught up in sympathy stories when it comes to selecting tenants.  I believe the nicer your units are the better quality tenant and the higher rents, but always look at what your competition is doing.  You want to be one step ahead of them.  One amenity nicer in your unit.

Good Luck.
