Vinyl tile for stairs

I truly dislike carpet in my rentals. The issue is what to do in smaller units, with stairs. Do you carpet the stairs and upstairs area? Carpet the stairs, and then transition back to vinyl plank? Do they make a plank flooring that properly covers stairs? I have always carpeted the stairs and second floor, but always wanted a better solution.

On one of my buildings here in Lyons, IL, I used vinyl on the stair tread and riser. I then used a piece of that metal stair nosing where you can screw it in to hold to the stairs in place. It worked very well for me! You would probably need to use glue for the riser portion to hold the VP in place, but on the tread you should be fine with just the metal piece holding it in.
