Rental property burned down — fault is that of neighbor

Jason Gilroy
Posted

New to the forum here. Disaster struck last week and one of my rental properties burned down. Being told by neighbor that fire started in next door detached garage by vagrants on a property that I do not own. Both the detached garage (neighbors) and rental property (mine) are a loss. Neighbors have insurance on their property. I don’t have insurance on my rental. What are the next steps to take? After insurance investigators comb through would I or tenants be able to receive any compensation?

Ouch no insurance on your property? Lesson learned I hope.

You more than likely will have to pursue damages through neighbors insurance provider. May even have to consult a lawyer.
