Tenants say the darndest things!

I just took over management of a property and a tenant was late on rent. I call to introduce myself and remind her that rent is due. She tells me she will pay ten days late. She also tells me she is giving her 30 day notice, which I accept. Then she says, "I have friends living with me that are not on the lease and they want to take over when I leave."

I remind her she shouldn't have anyone living with her and that her friends will have to apply and be approved before we will let them live there. She tells them and they turn in their application a few days later. We screen them and they fail so I call the tenant back.

"Your friends failed to pass our screening so I can't let them stay there any longer. I'm also concerned that you are unable to afford the rent on your own and your two friends aren't willing to help you."

She responds, "Yeh, I was worried about that because they've been living with me for a while and refuse to help out with the rent."

WHAT?!?
