Income from renting out houses a legal for H1B Visa Holders

Hi Everyone,

I am very new to real estate investing! 

I am here in the US on a H1B work visa and I want to know if it is legal for my to invest in real estate, rent out houses and earn a passive income from it? I will be glad if someone can help me out!
