Lot of bankruptcies

I'm renting some of the most expensive condos in my town. I getting lot of people with bankruptcies on their record....from this year, and some still in bankruptcy. What the heck is wrong with these people? And they all go bye bye once I ask for a credit and backround check. But I can see their history with a simple online search.
