What constitutes negligence from a home inspector?

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions revolving around pointing a brick building and negligence regarding this. What constitutes negligence from a home inspector? Should a home inspector know that an old brick building be pointed? A brick building that isn't pointed is an extremely expensive proposition and it can lead to water seeping through the walls and creating calcium deposits. Can a home inspector be sued if a brick building is purchased without being notified about pointing and then running into these issues within a year?

Does a second home inspector have to be consulted or a contractor? Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!
