What forms of ID should you ask applicants for?

I was wondering if people just use their driver's license alone (to make sure they are who they say they are on the application), or something additional with the SS# on it? I'm wondering because most people (myself included) no longer have their original SS card.

I personally just ask for a drivers license and they can put their SSN on the application. I am sure it is not the most cautious system, but it has worked for 15 years. In this day and age, it is tough to hide with all of the social media.
