Renting to person with disability
I am interested in first-hand experience - if you have/had a tenant with disability - please kindly chime in
Someone have inquired about the property and indicated this will be for their disabled son.
I made some research and confirmed that LL is obligated to provide reasonable accommodations for disabled person ( http://www.hud.gov/offices/fheo/disabilities/inhousing.cfm) that tenant will pay for. I didn't read the state law yet (Maryland).
My questions are:
1. If the resident is subsidized while I do not accept any vouchers - am I obligated to participate in his/her program?
2. If the resident does not meet our rental criteria - am I obligated to qualify his/her parents if they're guardians?
I look at it as a great opportunity (I don't think that after spending for alterations the resident is inclined to move out at the end of the year - but maybe I am mistaken?)
Please chime in, especially if you have an experience in this area.
Thanks in advance!!
