Greetings to everyone I am trying to help my friend out as to what to do in his situation and your advice would be greatly appreciate it

my friend is from Germany he rent a house for 2800 usd a month and has been living there for 8 months (lease 1 year, 2 months security deposit)  his business located in germany which is his  primary income  shut down in Germany and he is not able to afford any more rent and need to go back . He voluntary turned the property to the landlord but landlord treat with a lawsuit.

my quesiton is:

can landlord pursue criminal charge against him for uncollected rent and minor damage to property?

will he get into trouble trying to go back to usa?

if he decided to come back how can he check the charges or lawsuit against him>?

thanks to you all.

@Mike Dymski has it absolutely right. The idea of paying $2800/month for rent with no safety net is idiotic.  But your questions aren't about that:

1. You want to know if your friend can flee the country and be safe from prosecution.

2. You want to know if your friend can re-enter the country legally after fleeing it to avoid debt.

3. You want to know if your friend can find out if there are outstanding charges against him from abroad.

So my answer to you is that your friend really sounds like someone the USA could do without.
