Section 8 Payment Delayed.. What could be the reason?
I have a few Section 8 tenants now in my growing portolio, but I didn't see this curveball coming.. This would be the first time that Section 8 payment can "potentially" be delayed.
The property is located in Manassas, VA (Prince William County, VA) So I get an email the last business day of the month like a clock work, telling me that the funds will be deposited in my account the next business day. Last business day of June was yesterday. So looks like I won't be getting paid on July 2nd, as I haven't received the email, saying WO has been created for the payment.
I checked the HAP contract, and its valid until 7/31. I have already reached out to the Housing Authority, but doesn't look like they will be returning my email until Monday (7/2). The annual inspection on the property, which happened in March, went just fine. The April, May, and June payments came in just fine as well..
Couple of theories I could come up with, is that it could be delayed due to end of fiscal year, as the county goes from old budget to new budge on July 1st. Another theory is that some glitch in their system or human error caused the WO not to be created. I doubt I will get paid without a valid WO. Sometimes processing can get delayed, and can lag behind a day or two. As someone who has worked in IT, I know this all too well.
Has this happened to anyone?
