Background education for landlording?

Posted

First day, First post so hello. My wife and I currently have leases on two homes, one a rental, and one our home. We are interested in broadening our horizons and wanting to invest in more rental properties. I've been educating myself quite a bit, but there is one thing that I have yet to see(possibly may be two discussions down from this one) talked about so I figured I'd ask it. Neither one of us have any "official" education in being a landlord, so the question is, at what point do we need to get a real estate license. Do we need to(outside of hiring an agent)? Is there a law, state or federal, saying,at so many properties or income level, you must get a real estate license. If we don't need one, what are the common trends that will bite, legally? We are looking at doing the multi family home thing.
