Terminating on-site / live-in worker

I let this guy move into one of my foreclosures in exchange for remodeling work (I know, mistake). Of course he has done minimal amounts of work and is behind schedule. I have had enough of him, his attitude, his excuses and his lack of progress. I have had many conversations with him. He has shown some subtle signs of aggression towards me when I talked to him about being behind and I think he's a bit crazy. I want to fire him and get him out of my property. He has no rental agreement and has not paid one dime in rent. Apparently in CA this is considered employer-housing and he is a licensee. When I terminate him, his "housing" is terminated. Since he has no where to go I think he may get hostile. Suggestions on how to go about firing him and getting him out without jeopardizing my safety?
