Gas Leak/Line Replacement

My daughter & 2 roommates rented a house in Dallas. There were only a couple of houses in their area of choice with a property they could afford. Unfortunately, my fear of the landlord being a slumlord has come to fruition-or so it seems. Firstly, the house is sloppily painted-not a huge concern, girls are willing to accept. Secondly, the bathroom window is EXTREMELY hard to get locked. Thirdly, the smoke detector didn’t work. Finally, when tenants had gas company out to turn on service, they couldn’t do so, as there was a leak. My daughter called landlord to report & first thing he asked was if the gas company employee was a man or a woman! She called him on it & he backpedaled. They have to replace the line & need someone to be there Saturday morning. All three girls work Saturday morning & can’t afford to take off. Is it possible for them to get some sort of concession for having to miss work in order for landlord to get the repair done?
