Housing for remodeling .... employer-housing & termination
I have a guy that has done some part-time remodeling work for me over the past few years. I purchased a foreclosure and he needed a place to live. I decided he could "work for rent" and stay at the property while he was remodeling it. He was to work a specific number of days per week and do specific tasks. He has done some work, but has not done the work as scheduled, if at all. I have spoken to him and he always promises to get the work done and then doesn't.
I understand this situation is considered employer-provided housing and contingent on him doing the work. BTW, he has not paid a dime in rent or paid any utilities so he is not considered a Tenant. I want him out and have decided to fire/terminate him. I understand once his work ends, his housing ends.
When I terminate him I am going to give him a 3 day notice to move out. If he does not, then I will file an unlawful detainer and will have him removed if necessary. Has anyone done "work for housing" with a worker? Does anyone have specific advice on how to proceed (aside from I should not have put myself in this position?)
