Basement rentals, Original renters want to add another adult
Hello All,
Need some advice on my particular renter situation. Currently renting my basement out to a single mother and her child since last March, original rent was $1575 (all utilities) and I saw her situation at the time and dropped it to $1500 for a 12 month lease with all utilities included, she purchased a electric charging vehicle less than two months after moving in so obviously taking full advantage of all utilities included.
Two months ago, she had a boyfriend stay with her and told me that it was temporary while he is looking for a new place. Then yesterday the bomb dropped that they are thinking about living together and wish to discuss the lease, during a short conversation with the boyfriend he said they were thinking about just reverting to my original asking price for rent at $1575 but obviously that’s not happening.
Just want to get some insight from fellow landlords in the forum on how to move forward with a situation like this. The original renters are great, no complaints on my end from them but this new boyfriend of 3-4 months does not reflect on me that greatly even though he works for a great university in the USA. Please any advice would help!
