Renting out a room in a townhome/condo with HOA laws

Hello. We live in a townhome that has three floors. We rehabbed the bottom floor to accommodate my inlaws for about a year. Since they've moved out we realized the space would be great as a room rental. Our HOA bylaws prohibit us from renting out a room (can only rent out entire unit). Has anyone had success convincing their condo board to allow renters? Any advice on how to approach the board? Thanks
