Question for Washington DC Landlords (Need Advise)
Good Morning BP Family!
I have a situation. My tenant sent me an e-mail stating that he and his roommate will be breaking the lease and moving out in March. The lease term ends on the last day of April. His reasoning is because they no longer feel safe due to a shooting that took place a few weeks ago. He said he is working with the Office of the Tenant Advocate and after March 1, they will be assisting with the final terms of the lease due to this "Special" Situation.
My issue, is this isn't a "Special" situation in this part of DC. The tenant previously lived in a condo two blocks for 5 years and knows exactly what comes with living in this neighborhood. It's still transitioning. So to me this isn't a "Special" situation.
Has anyone worked with the Office of Tenant Advocate? I manage the property myself because my original property manager wasn't trustworthy.
Please advise.
