Pros/Cons to replace a/c in 2017

I am looking to replace our a/c system either before the end of the year or early in 2018. Are there any advantages to doing this before the end of the year? We are thinking that it will be advantageous to start amortizing it for 2017 taxes, but not a tax expert here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
