A Story of How Property Managers Can Screw Up

My son recently moved out of an apartment in a 40-unit building. His rent was $639/month, but for reasons we never understood, his security deposit was $538. He just received a security deposit refund check from the manager for $589, with an accounting showing that his security deposit was $639 and that the manager withheld $50 as a cleaning fee. He netted $51 to the good. The management company that returned this fee manages several hundred units around the city my son lives in. The moral of the story is to pay attention to what your management company is doing.
