Picking separate rental due dates

As a landlord with several single family homes, is it better to systematically have renters pay on a few different days to the central office or have everyone pay on the 1st of the month? I have known landlords to do both techniques and wondered if either has any advantages. Anyone with personal experience prefer one approach over the other?
